Our learning approach
Our school uses explicit teaching. This means we clearly tell students what they are learning, why it is important and how to do it step by step. Explicit teaching helps students understand new ideas by breaking them into smaller parts.
Learning at our school is student-centred, inclusive and practical. We are committed to equity and access. We support all learning styles and needs. Our teachers use proven teaching strategies. They take part in ongoing professional development to stay up to date with best teaching practice.
Our learning approach includes:
- real-world learning: hands-on tasks, group work, problem solving projects and exploring new ideas that supports collaboration and critical thinking.
- technology: a well resourced school with iPads and notebooks, interactive panel, robotics and digital tools to support students learning and engagement with the curriculum while also developing the digital skills needed to prepare students for the future.
- flexible teaching and individualised support : providing tailored support for each student through adjustments and personalised learning plans for those who require extra assistance or additional challenge, ensuring every child is supported, challenged, and prioritised in terms of wellbeing.
- community connections: through excursions and cultural programs that link classroom learning to the wider world. We maintain strong partnerships with local preschools and high schools and engage with our school community via events organised by the Earlwood School Parent Association (ESPA). Additionally, we collaborate with local wellbeing organisations such as CECAL Youth Space, Kids Helpline, and headspace to support the overall wellbeing and growth of our students.
